Located in the lake area of the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, Out of the Earth is a sculptural art created by Yang Po-lin. The elliptical sphere emerges from the lake, and is Taiwan’s first-ever art piece that is permanently placed in water.
Yang regularly uses circular designs to lend his sculpture a sense of warmth. Additionally, he frequently conveys the concepts of nature and life through his creations. Over the course of the day, the smooth, stainless-steel surface of Out of the Earth produces varying light and shadows that adds to the lake’s appeal (and vice versa), creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The piece seems to swim in the ocean of life, overcoming numerous challenges and evolution until ultimately reverting back to a state of simplicity.
