Sanmin District National Science and Technology Museum
Built in 1997, the National Science and Technology Museum is the first museum of applied science in Taiwan. Together with the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (which opened in 1994), the museum occupies the east and west ends of northern Kaohsiung, offering art, science, and technology exhibition units. The National Science and Technology Museum covers an area of more than 18 hectares. The main building consists of one underground floor and six above-ground floors that feature modern geometric shapes and a floor area of nearly 30,000 ping. The center of the museum is triangular and the latter with circular and square wings on each side that are connected by futuristic corridors with truss glass curtains. The combination presents a complexity that resembles a high-tech city. The circular side of the museum boasts a round skylight and curved balcony, which is a tribute to the Guggenheim Museum in New York designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This imitation of the Guggenheim Museum and collages is unified by grey stone tiles. . Today, it is a popular location for children and parent activities that involve science and technology.
