National Stadium, formerly known as the World Games Stadium, was designed by Pritzker Prize winner Ito Toyo. Ito introduced design concepts such as an open stadium, urban park, and spiral continuum, redefining stadium designs in the 21st century. Ito erected a 20-meter-tall installation called “Flame” at the entrance, an artwork that mirrors the stadium itself by featuring a spiral structure. Additionally, the red steel pipe and plating resembles the Olympic flame, spiraling upwards to echo the stadium and exemplify athletes’ passion, energy, and vitality.
