The current Kaohsiung Refinery Zhongshan Hall opened in 1965, holds 1,500 people and was designed by post-war modern architecture master Wang Da-hong. The building features a concise, modern design that is split with clear horizontal and vertical lines. The front facade has long window lattice decorations on red brick and béton brut, whereas the back consists of embossed structure, red brick, and long window lattices with small openings. The roof is supported by a trapezoid framework and fixed in place with rivets. Though simple in design, the building’s size lends it a magnificent presence. Zhongshan Hall served as a venue for major events or important seminars, as well as a second-run theater for Kaohsiung Refinery employees and their family members.
