Located in the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (Siaogang Branch), Golden Eyes is an artwork featuring a gold-colored eyeball emitting gold wires on a “flame of justice” that grows with the wind. The artwork represents panopticon control, keeping a close eye on operations that prevent the presence of pests and diseases.
The creator expanded upon Sun Wukong’s speciality “golden eyes” to design an artwork that can identify forces of evil, urging the bureau to uphold its role in animal and plant health inspection and quarantine. A general outline was used to portray fire, and a simple color was added to evoke a sense of power. This artwork ties the bureau and public health together, highlighting the importance of epidemic prevention as well as creating a positive image.
