Public Art 041:Little An: A Plan for the Creation of a Mosaic Environment
“Little An: A Plan for the Creation of a Mosaic Environment” is an artwork whimsically portrayed on a wall at Dayi Warehouse. When the creator Huang Jing-jhong researched ideas for his creation, he discovered that the Dayi Warehouse had many faucets scattered across a mottled wall. In a surge of inspiration, he created a classic Italian mosaic by inlaying tiles around one of the faucets in the form of a little boy. This artwork reminds visitors of Manneken Pis, a Brussels landmark in Belgium.
Pier-2 warehouses were previously used to store fish meal and refined sugar, making fire a great threat to people working in the warehouses. Huang built this artwork to protect the warehouse from fire and to bring blessings. Little An is now a Pier-2 Art Center landmark.
