“Klangfeld No.4” was created by German artist Florian Claar for National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) and is inspired by echo devices used for detecting aircrafts in the 1920s (the predecessors of radar that could gather, reflect, and transmit sound waves). Claar applied this concept to Klangfeld No.4, where visitors speaking into one satellite dish can be heard by those near another satellite dish, facilitating sound transmission interaction. Additionally, the arc shape of the piece echoes the hollow tree design concept employed by Weiwuying, enabling the artwork to “communicate” with Weiwuying buildings and encourage visitors to explore various soundscapes.
