Located in the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (First Campus), Barcode Jungle is the winner of The First Public Art Award (category: Best Creative Presentation Award). Created by artist Huang Cing-hui to complement the completion of the Library and Information Building, Barcode Jungle was inspired by linear barcodes (first-generation barcodes), and features two enlarged sets of barcodes (one in red and one in black) on the pavement to attract passerby’s attention, creating the sense of entering a digital, virtual space.
Additionally, the linear feature of barcodes was utilized in the design of bicycle stands that enable this installation to serve as a means of visual enjoyment as well as contributing practical value, a concept that mirrors linear barcodes which remain widely used and closely related to our lives today.
