The Kaohsiung Harbor History Museum is located next to Kaohsiung Port. During World War II, Kaohsiung Port was heavily bombed. The Kaohsiung Harbor Museum was luckily spared and continued to be used as the Harbor Affairs Bureau and Joint Inspection Center after the war, witnessing the development and evolution of Kaohsiung Port. The museum is a two-story, flat roofed Western classical brick building with reinforced concrete plates and beams, featuring an architectural combination that is extremely rare in Taiwan. The walls are made with quality red brick under western specifications, its corners are strong, straight, and uniform in color. The interior is composed of independent brick columns and reinforced concrete plates with complimentary western moldings that create an airy, classical space; a rare demonstration of early architecture.
