Cishan Station is the only remaining Taiwan Sugar Railways wood-built station in Kaohsiung City. After the Qiwei Line opened to the public, Cishan Station (formerly Fanshuliao Courier Station) was completed around 1913 to 1915 to accommodate travelers’ needs, thus becoming Fanshuliao Street’s (Cishan Street) transitional portal into Jiuqutang Station and the West Coast line. Cishan Station’s exterior is of wooden, European design with an octagonal apex at the northeastern corner. This unique feature lends the station a fairytale atmosphere and has since become the station’s most distinguishing characteristic. The station incorporates both Western and Japanese wood construction techniques, therefore, a diversified structure is also one of the important features of Cishan Railway Station.
