Relief carving methods are used in making the Old Woman’s face, a carving technique that etches the puppet’s facial lines from one surface while leaving the rest blank, so the face of the puppet is composed of lines. She is dressed in a black dress with round, hollowed flower patterns. This old woman plays the role of Meng Rihong’s mother-in-law, the leading female character in the story of "Curing Parents by Cutting Thigh".
