Architechture 001:The Old City of Fengshan County(Old City of Zuoying)
After Taiwan was officially incorporated into Qing Dynasty territory, Fengshan County was established in Xinglong Village, now known as Zuoying Old City. Zuoying Old City has many unique relics and retains its gate structure, in addition to the remaining city walls complete with horse tracks, forts, and battlements. At present, we are the only Taiwanese heritage site with drainage facilities still intact. On the North Gate’s outer wall, a pair of door gods stand guard embossed in limestone. Legends say that because the old city's former training field and execution grounds are both located on the outskirts of the North Gate, the gods are there to stand guard against evil. Zuoying Old City is a proud representation of Qing architecture and is well worth your visit.
