Under Starlight Skies and Upon a Bed of Grass: We Reunite Every Spring as Promised
As flowers bloom in the warming breeze, the Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival’s most anticipated highlight—the “Lawn Concert”—returns to the expansive lawn of the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (KMFA). Thousands are expected to gather as the festival opens with an evening of music in a relaxed, open-air setting.
Over the past 16 years, the charismatic Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival has built a stellar reputation and a dedicated following. This spring, the festival returns to its familiar starting point on the Lakeside Lawn of KMFA to meet its audience once again. Following the 228 Memorial Grassland Concert “Formosa, Forever in My Heart,” on the evening of February 28, the festival will present two consecutive weekends of cinematic musical feasts starting in early March at the Lakeside Lawn of KMFA: On March 7-8, KSAF presents the Disney Concerts production of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. As the film that launched the global phenomenon, it achieved both critical acclaim and box office success upon its release. Celebrating the film’s 23rd anniversary, this concert marks its Taiwan debut, offering a rare and magnificent experience on the Lakeside Lawn of KMFA.
On March 14-15, the spotlight shifts to the Asian premiere of Flow, the “Triple Crown” winner of Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, the César Awards, and the Golden Globes Awards. In a truly exceptional appearance, the film’s original composer, Rihards Zaļupe, will take the podium to conduct. With no dialogue, the film relies on its score and visuals to narrate a journey of peril and warmth. As the animals drift across the giant screen at KMFA, accompanied by the powerful live performance of the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, laughter and tears will weave into a poetic experience, bringing pure, heartfelt emotion through the world’s most reliable animal teammates.
This year’s Lawn Concerts are both themed around the “Ocean.” From the fast-paced, action-packed adventure of a live-action epic to the delicate imagery and tender melodies of an animation exploring friendship and growth, the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra will guide the audience through a journey between symphonic rhythms and cinematic frames.
To thank fans for their year-long anticipation, special “Double Feature” and “Group of Four” ticket packages are available. We encourage everyone to take advantage of these offers.
We welcome friends from across Taiwan who love performing arts and film music to gather in Kaohsiung once again. We hope this audiovisual feast under the spring stars creates lasting memories for you and your loved ones, allowing art to be the gentlest and healing force in your life.
