Arts & Festivities Arrive in Kaohsiung
The Year of the Horse has arrived! With its warm winter sun and festive spirit, Kaohsiung is the perfect destination to spend the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday. Whether you're up for a leisurely trot or ready to explore the city like a seasoned steed, Kaohsiung offers something for every kind of traveler. From the first through the fifth day of the New Year, cultural venues under the Kaohsiung Bureau of Cultural Affairs will remain open, presenting a rich lineup of fun and inspiring arts and cultural events. Let your creativity run wild like a galloping horse, dive into non-stop cultural experiences, and welcome good fortune at every turn.
Soak up the Lunar New Year atmosphere at the Pier-2 Night Bazaar, the holiday markets at the Kaohsiung Music Center and Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and the Spring Art Fair along the Avenue of the Arts at the Kaohsiung Cultural Center. Featuring live music, delicious food, and art-inspired New Year goods, these festive markets are the perfect places to eat, shop, and stroll. The Kaohsiung Film Archive and the Neiwei Arts Center–Neiwei Cinema are also presenting Lunar New Year–exclusive films. With thrilling plots and immersive sound and visuals, these screenings promise to keep your holiday exciting and entertaining.
Family-friendly DIY experiences will also take place across Kaohsiung’s cultural venues. The Kaohsiung Public Library, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, Siaoyao Villa, Fongyi Academy, HuangPu Wonderland, and Hongmaogang Cultural Park will each host hands-on activities including: Chinese calligraphy, silk screen printing, couplet stamping, festive paper cutting, lucky potted plants, traditional woodblock New Year prints, Ang Ku Kueh (red tortoise cake) making, and mini lantern crafts. Both children and adults are invited to ring in the Year of the Horse by crafting symbolic keepsakes to usher in luck and blessings.
In addition to these diverse holiday events, Kaohsiung’s grandest annual cultural celebration—the Spring Arts Festival—will also make a highly anticipated return. Among the many highlights, the Grassland Concert will feature two fantasy adventure classics: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Flow. With iconic scenes brought to life by the sweeping soundscapes of the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, audiences will embark on thrilling journeys alongside Captain Jack Sparrow and the whimsical feline.
