The 2025 Kaohsiung Jhuang Tou Fringe Festival gathers all kinds of audiences’ favor-ite performance genres and excellent performing arts groups to launch a 37-performance festival in 27 administrative districts of Kaohsiung for 3 months.
The “Jhuang Tou Taiwanese Opera” will showcase 15 captivating productions from 7 acclaimed opera troupes, including Chun-Mei Taiwanese Opera Troupe, Ming Hua Yu-an Tian Zi Art & Culture Group, Ming Hwa Yuan-the Ri Theatrical Troupe, SunHope Taiwanese Opera Troupe, Sheng Chiu Opera Troupe, ShiuKim Taiwanese Opera Troupe, and Pei-Yi Opera Troupe. These heartfelt performances promise to thrill thea-tergoers with wonderful weekend nights with famous opera singers.
To ensure that young fans of Taiwanese opera can also connect with the performances, this year’s “Jhuang Tou Family Play” not only features well-loved groups such as Chi-Chiao Musical Theatre, Beans Theatre, and Apple Theater, but also specially invites the ShiuKim Taiwanese Opera Troupe and SunHope Taiwanese Opera Troupe to pre-sent engaging children’s Taiwanese opera. A total of nine family-friendly shows will be staged, offering weekend entertainment that parents and children can enjoy together in a warm, family-centered atmosphere.
The “Jhuang Tou Concert” features top-tier ensembles such as Kaohsiung City Wind Orchestra, Neo-Classical Chamber Ensemble, Southern Taiwan Pops Orchestra, O O Music Art, and STAC Southern Taiwan A Cappella. From musicals and symphonies to vocal music and percussion, each concert delivers a distinct musical atmosphere, of-fering audiences a diverse and enriching listening experience.
In the “Jhuang Tou Puppet Show” series, Taiwan’s leading puppet troupes—Jin-Ing-Ger Puppet Troupe, Chin Fei Feng Marionette Theatre Troupe, and New-World Glove Puppetry Theatre—will stage 3 spectacular performances. These shows highlight the unique artistry of Taiwanese Puppetry, inviting the public to witness the charm of tra-ditional performing arts brought to life in modern community settings.
“Kaohsiung’s Jhuang Tou is the stage for happy gatherings.” From August 2 to Octo-ber 25, on weekend evenings, performance troupes will take turns lighting up the stage. While artists give their all under the spotlight, laughter and applause ripple through the audience. Everyone is warmly invited to come and experience the joy.
