The Grassland Concert is on!
The Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival is celebrating its 15th year. The festival will feature the popular Grassland Concert, which will pay tribute to the iconic science fiction hero, Superman. The festival will also feature the classic science fiction film Back to the Future, which has been recommended by the American Film Institute as one of the top 10 science fiction films of the past 100 years. We will take you to listen to pleasant music on the grassy slope of the breezy Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. We will fly with Superman to save the Earth. We will also go on a time-traveling adventure with Marty and Dr. Brown!
The first film to grace the stage is Superman, released in 1978, which quickly sparked a frenzy and amassed an impressive global box office of USD300 million. Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Superman, both tender and powerful, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many people. The iconic “S” emblem on his chest has even become a cultural symbol, catapulting Christopher Reeve to fame as the quintessential superhero. The film’s score, composed by the acclaimed John Williams, includes the emblematic Superman March, symbolizing the superhero’s entrance and becoming one of the most representative themes for heroism in cinema. The theme melody evokes a sense of justice and honor, making it instantly recognizable. Conductor Wu Yao-Yu and the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra lead this concert, inviting everyone to relive the visual and emotional impact of this classic science fiction film.
The classic Back to the Future was released in 1985 became a box office sensation. It tells the story of American teenager Marty, who accidentally travels back to 1955 and meets his young parents. Marty must ensure that his parents fall in love again to correct historical mistakes. Marty and his scientist friend, Dr. Brown, work together to find a way to go back to 1985. The film was scored by acclaimed composer Alan Silvestri, who made it a surprise hit. Silvestri used an orchestra of over 100 musicians to create a powerful movement of heroism and adventure. He collaborated with executive producer Steven Spielberg and director Robert Zemeckis to create a wonder of music and film. Yang Chih-Chin will conduct the concert with the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra. Fans will be taken on a journey through time and space to save their parents’ love, riding in a time car and on a floating board.
