The History of Kaohsiung Permanent Exhibition
Resplendent Kaohsiung: An Immersive Historical Theater
September 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the official renaming of Takao to Kaohsiung, and the launch of Kaohsiung Museum of History’s " The History of Kaohsiung Permanent Exhibition." We guide visitors through a mulitimedia exploration of the city’s history that features three main themes: "Impression Kaohsiung", "Kaohsiung History" and "Digital Kaohsiung".
In "Impression Kaohsiung", the Museum will show a rare digital image collection of historical imagery through polaroid lens, inviting the audience to see their life stories in each picture. We spent two years building a 20-meter-wide immersive theater with panoramic views for the "Kaohsiung History" exhibition. In a 10-minute historical animation, we link interactive experiences titled "Landscape over 100 Years", "Prehistoric Times", "the Kingdom of Tungning", "Qing Dynasty", " Kaohsiung under Japanese Rule", "Contemporary Kaohsiung", to share the city’s history, growth, and transformation. "Digital Kaohsiung" will allow audiences to explore the best, hidden elements of Kaohsiung through the interactive TV wall.
To enhance the museum’s spatial features, we’ve designed a "Eat in Takao" light food court and a "Sakaechō Shop" souvenir shop to add recreation functions to the historical elements of the museum. We are also launching a new website to expand access to cultural information through friendly digital platforms that optimize literature and collection search systems to further promote "Kaohsiung studies". We look forward to discovering more Kaohsiung stories with its citizens.
As the first independent administrative institution museum in Taiwan, we spent three years on software upgrades and hardware renovation, all of which are improvements that we believe will enhance our patrons’ experiences. In the future, the first floor of the Museum will be dedicated to the permanent exhibition, allowing for a full demonstration of the city’s rich cultural and historical energy. From this year’s September 2nd, the Kaohsiung City Government sincerely invites all of you to the Museum of History for the centennial celebration of the city’s renaming, and to usher in a new age!
