County Fringe Festival
Come enjoy the County Fringe Festival, with 49 shows spanning Kaohsiung’s 25 districts!
The County Fringe Festival is a warmly received event in the Kaohsiung art scene. Entering its 10th year, the festival is extended this year and will run from July to October. Performances span from performing halls to temples, schools, streets and community centers, bringing a different experience to the public.
This year's County Fringe Festival includes extremely popular Taiwanese opera that feature famous performers from Chun-Mei Taiwanese Opera Troupe, Ming Hua Yuan (Tian) Taiwanese Opera Co., SanChou Taiwanese Opera Troupe, Ming Hwa Yuan the Ri Theatrical Troupe, Sunhope Taiwanese Opera Troupe and Shiukim Taiwanese Opera Troupe. In modern theater, we invite local troupes such as the Bean Theater, Apple Theater and ChiChiao Musical Theater, providing performances that are popular with audiences of all ages and also adding street art performances to this year’s roster.
In concert, the Total Musical Theater, Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra, KSO Youth Symphony Orchestra, Neo-Classic Chamber Ensemble, and Succession Percussion Group will perform musical, Chinese, symphony, percussion and classical music. For the very first time, shadow puppet performances will be included in the County Fringe Festival, injecting traditional culture into public space. Chin Fei Feng Marionette Theater Troupe, Yung Shing Le Shadow Troupe, Tian Hong Yuan puppet troupe, Kaohsiung New World Hand Puppet Troupe and Jin-Ing-Ger Puppet Troupe each bring wonderful plays that portray traditional charm. Street Art performances including human statue (Zheng Qi-Chang), cube and contact pole (Chang Chia-Luo), diabolo and yo-yo (Yoyo Yang), kendama and juggling (Screw) and stunt (Taiwan Circus Gate) are added to the roster, introducing an interactive experience that bridges the gap between performer and audience.
The County Fringe Festival’s purpose is to bring diverse performances to the heart of the community. From July to October, Kaohsiung becomes a happy stage that bring people together on weekend nights. Welcome to the show and enjoy the fun!
