Public Art 099:Secret Voices from the Ocean : Sea Pearls, Listening Point
Secret Voices from the Ocean: Sea Pearls, Listening Point was a collaboration between artist Lin Shuen-long and French sound artist Yannick Dauby at the request of Port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd. The piece is a giant, white seashell facing the sea that boasts a magnificent, dazzling, golden, pearlescent appearance when illuminated by the sun. The artwork conveys the concept of seashells on land that interact with their external environment to create a realm of beauty, similar to Kaohsiung combining its history and multicultural society to transform itself from an industrial city to a shining pearl. The artwork contains six ear-like sound collectors that allow visitors to hear the changing sea breeze and undulating waves, calming them and allowing them to listen to their inner voice.
