Standing tall and upright in The Pier-2 Art Center, Refute the Waves is an artwork featuring a pair of paddles. Created by artist Liang Ren-hong, this artwork depicts paddles that move in the air when wind blows. The paddles’ natural environment is changed from blue seas to a clear sky, ingeniously connecting sea and land as well as people and land. This is a symbol of Kaohsiung citizens and the “sea genes” that have been passed down from generation to generation. Additionally, it suggests that where there is sea breeze, there are waves; where there are sea waves, there is home.
