On a Dayi Warehouse south wall that faces the sea is a square space featuring a statue of Mazu made by artist Weng Guo-sung using stainless steel wires. The grey, sparse, and interlaced metallic wires and motley warehouse walls flawlessly complement each other, reflecting the peaceful sacredness of temple spaces.
Mazu is a sea goddess in the coastal regions of East Asia who is also closely linked to marine culture. The Pier-2 Art Center was previously a port warehouse converted into an art center; it preserves the elements of piers, sea breezes, and seas. Weng’s Mazu is not only an installation art, but also a protector of local culture.
