Siaogang District/Hongmaogang Cultural Park
In 2007, Hongmaogang Village relocated to facilitate the construction of the Kaohsiung Intercontinental Container Terminal. The Kaohsiung City Government later built Hongmaogang Cultural Park on land surrounding Gaozi Tower (Southern Tower); completing construction in 2012. The Hongmaogang Cultural Park is divided into six major zones that feature preserved historical sites and the fishing village’s cultural resources. Approximately half of the architecture were built from existing structures. For example, the white sky trail was originally an abandoned trail previously used by the Taiwan Power Company to transport coal; and the Gaozi Tower Revolving Restaurant was originally a ship signal tower. Columns and walls in the cultural park were decorated by adding woodwork designs and tiles to form an outdoor display area. Additionally, sanheyuan and a two-story townhouse were reproduced in memory of the village’s nostalgic narrow lanes. This transition from fishing villages, to heavy industry and international ports, are a part of Kaohsiung’s memorable past.
