Gushan District Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts
Built in 1994, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts is located at the Neiweibi Cultural Park and is one of three major public art museums in Taiwan. Featuring four floors above-ground and two underground, the museum measures 8,318 ping in floor space with approximately 41 hectares in art park space. With Kaohsiung’s famous Shoushan and the Love River nearby, the museum is nestled in magnificent surroundings. Following the cultural explorations and demands of the 21st century, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts became an independent administrative institution in 2017 to flexibly meet the public’s needs for urban landscapes, leisure, and education. Starting in 2018, the museum launched a spatial reconstruction project, introducing the concept of “light room” to highlight new technology. Thin-film LED lighting technology is used to transform the “closed black and white room” method adopted by traditional art museums. The new space is similar to an opened skylight, creating a public-friendly display space. The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts will continue to evolve in accordance with the spatial reconstruction project to become an art hub in southern Taiwan that facilitates social communication to offer learning, leisure, and recreational services.
