At the intersection of the light rail and Dayong St. is “Giant’s Building Blocks”, a large installation made of red containers, and The Pier-2 Art Center’s new landmark.
Its creater Wu Kuan-ying is an artist skilled in building blocks and geometric structure. Wu stated that “sculpting and clay modeling involve subtraction and addition, respectively, whereas art creation using building blocks involves addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division.” This artwork, with only three supports, reveals how its creator ingeniously played with structural combinations.
Old containers were remodeled, polished, and rebuilt similar to a kid playing with building blocks, creating a sense of experimentation and novelty. The world becomes the artist’s playground and creativity.
