Founded in 1967, the Wufu Junior High School was built during the modernism era. As a result, many of its facades contain reliefs with geometric patterns that were common at the time. The school boasts many large walls with sculptures, some of which made by local Kaohsiung artist Song Shih-hsiung. Accordingly, a team of artists worked together to restore some of the aforementioned walls and turn them into public art. One of said public art is Happily Go.
In this artwork, anthropomorphic lamps were used to represent diligent students, and a book page’s corner was turned to reveal facades with reliefs, transforming 2D reliefs into 3D reliefs that symbolize enrolled or graduating students starting a new chapter in their lives. The students hop on a flying boat to pursue their dreams and paint their lives with bright colors.
This public art successfully illustrates the deep connection between time and space, and is a continuation of the campus’ past.
